The Blue Ridge Parkway is close by where we live. Perhaps a 30 min ride. There is a nice quiet overlook with a path along Otter Creek Janie and I frequent. I can no longer get down into remote areas, but this is close enough to the car where we can go and spend a couple of hours and its remote enough, and little visited enough we usually have the place to ourselves. The trail is well maintained and I can get my old arthritic bones into the pretty places. Morels are common here in the spring, and there are a lot of wild dwarf irises, columbines, and other wildflowers that come and go in and out of season along the path.
